For over sixty years DPRK (Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea) has been one of the world’s most secret societies and is still one of the few countries under communist rule.
Sandstorms happen in Sub Saharan Africa and the Arabian peninsula around Pakistan, Iran and India.
Below freezing temperatures and bitter snow storms have been gripping Afghanistan since the onset of winter in mid December. At its peak temperatures in the region fell to -22C (-8F); the coldest in more than 30 years.
About the photographer;
Mark Pearson is a Scottish photographer who works in natural disasters and conflict environments for the UK based disaster relief charity ShelterBox.
His work has been published by National Geographic, Newsweek, BBC, SKY, ITV , Channel 4, CNN, Rotary International and numerous other media organizations.
“Aftershock”, is his first book and is the culmination of several years of work covering the Asian Tsunami, Pakistan earthquake, Somalia, Lebanon and Sudan.
Cyclone Nargis was a category one cyclone that struck the Myanmar coast on May 2, 2008. Winds reached 190-km per hour and a tidal surge of 12 ft forced it’s way on an easterly track through 10,000 acres of rice fields killing over 140,000 people and leaving millions homeless, it is the worst natural disaster ever to hit the country of Myanmar.
