Bicycles
Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK)
For over half a century North Korea has been one of the world's most secretive societies and it is one of the few countries still under communist rule.
The population of North Korea is around 23 million, the people are very poor and the transport is limited to bicycles and trams, fuel is extremely expensive and hard to come by so the people get around by bicycles.
It is estimated that the nation's demand for bicycles is about 7 million, according to the Chinese media. The Chinese company now manufactures some 40 models and 60,000 bicycles annually, with the most popular model costing $26. In coming years, it plans to produce 300,000 bicycles annually and construct another three bicycle plants.
