Winter Swell Pier Jump, Saltburn-by-the-Sea
Winter Swell Pier Jump, Saltburn-by-the-Sea

The surf on England's northeast coast gets particularly heavy during winter, the water temperature is 6 °C (43 °F) and the wind is predominately from the west, creating consistent offshore winds.

Saltburn Pier is an iconic landmark and when the surf gets too big to paddle out then you can jump straight off in between the sets and have an easy paddle out back. The town has a great culture and is the home of surfing in the northeast

These images were taken in late December 1999 of Frazer Camfield, suited and booted jumping into the north sea for some great surf.
