The Perfect Negative - out of date Ilford Delta 400 film

June 7, 2020

This negative got a bit damaged as they do, unlike digital images they are real and they exist. Negatives have a natural depth to them, the surface of the emulsion can easily be damaged. I like this image because it is not finished and complete, and also I remember during that storm in Falmouth the film I had was nine years out of date and I think the film was affected by humidity and you can see that. Ilford Delta iso 400 (exp 2011) is faster and more light sensitive and I came to the conclusion that there was a clear difference of quality from the Ilford delta 100 where it showed no signs of fogging after it being expired for nine years. It was a gamble but it paid off in the end and I'm looking forward to seeing all the exhibition prints framed this week.
